RICHARD NEGUS
HEDGEROW MANAGEMENT
ABOUT ME
I was schooled in laying hedges on the Quenby Estate in Leicestershire over twenty five years ago. My teacher was a wonderful countryman called Michael Dixon. He taught me that a well laid hedge should not be judged by the style and beauty of the job. Instead, he maintained it was the increased density, regrowth and habitat provision that was the hedgelayer’s benchmark. I pride myself that I took this lesson on board.
I lay hedges on farms, shoots and estates throughout East Anglia, predominately for landowners who are as passionate about conservation as I am. East Anglia has no unique hedgelaying style of its own, therefore I have adapted a number of traditional styles to suit our own unique landscape and the game and wildlife that calls it home. I also offer other services, including hedge/tree planting and coppicing.

TESTIMONIALS
“Richard has laid just over a mile of hedgerow for us - predominantly hawthorn planted a decade ago. We now have a thickened base, which should be ideal nesting habitat for our grey partridges.”
Jonathan Minter, Rivers Hall Estate, Boxted
“Richard is an experienced and very knowledgeable hedge layer. His work is a wonder to behold.”
David Barclay, Desnage Lodge
“Richard’s hedge laying has instantly transformed a nine year old line of native lolly pops into a wonderful wildlife windbreak.”
Adam Steed - Keeper, Blacks of Bacton
